number grid puzzles for fans of sudoku
If you enjoy sudoku, you’ll recognise the appeal of these puzzles: a grid, a set of constraints, and the satisfaction of filling in every square through logic alone. The difference is that these add arithmetic into the mix – instead of just placing digits, you’re working with sums, products and calculations.
maffdoku – the closest thing to sudoku in the nerdleverse. Fill a 3×3 grid with the digits 1–9 (each used once). The clues around the outside tell you the sum or product of each row and column. Three difficulty levels:
targets – build calculations to match target numbers using a given set of digits and operators. Four levels, from one target to four simultaneous targets. The multi-target levels require careful balancing of available numbers across multiple equations.
If you enjoy these, you might also like cross nerdle – a math crossword that shares the same “fill the grid with logic” feel.
