About Pi
Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is an irrational number, meaning that it cannot be expressed as a simple fraction. Pi is approximately 3.14159, but the number goes on infinitely. Pi is used in many fields of science and mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
Pi day was founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw. March 14 was selected because the numerical date (3.14) represents the first three digits of pi.
