crosswords with numbers – fill in the grid using logic and arithmetic

If you enjoy crosswords but prefer numbers to words, these puzzles are for you. Each one presents a grid of interlocking calculations – every row across and column down must form a valid equation. Using logic and deduction, you fill in the missing digits and operators.

Unlike the nerdle guessing games, these are pure logic puzzles. The grid gives you enough information to work out every answer without guessing.

More about each game

cross nerdle – a daily math crossword. Some squares are pre-filled; you complete the rest. Puzzles are easiest on Monday and get harder through the week, following the crossword tradition. Sunday is the toughest. You can peek at your progress or reveal a tile if you’re stuck, but unaided solves score highest. There’s also an unlimited practice mode for extra puzzles.

2d nerdle – nerdle expanded into two dimensions. A grid of calculations that interlock across and down, available in three difficulty levels plus an unlimited mode.

shuffle 123 – a sliding puzzle where you rearrange number tiles into valid calculations. Part spatial reasoning, part arithmetic.

Why play?

These puzzles exercise different skills from the guessing-game nerdle variants. They reward patience, systematic elimination and comfort with order of operations (× and ÷ before + and −). They’re also popular in classrooms – see our classroom math games page for ideas on using them with students.
